The Central Highlands is one of those parts of Tasmania that seems to reveal something different every time you pass through. I’ve travelled through the region a handful of times now, sometimes with photography in mind, other times simply enjoying the drive and seeing where the road leads.
Even when you’re just passing through, it’s difficult not to stop. Places like Lake St Clair in the west, or the short walk through Pine Lake, are worth taking the time to explore. The weather changes quickly, the light is never quite the same, and each visit feels a little different from the last.
The images in this gallery were made across several trips rather than all at once. Some came from planned stops, others from pulling over when the conditions looked promising. They’re quiet moments from a landscape that rewards patience more than chasing the perfect photograph.
I hope this collection gives a small glimpse into why I keep finding reasons to return to Tasmania’s Central Highlands.
